Overturned tractor-trailer impedes holiday travel in Tallulah Falls

TALLULAH FALLS — The Georgia State Patrol reports a wreck involving two tractor-trailer trucks, one of which overturned, resulted in minor injuries to one driver Friday afternoon.

The wreck happened about 1:45 p.m. on Ga. 15/U.S. 441 just north of Jane Hurt Yarn Drive, which is the main entrance to Tallulah Gorge State Park.

“The driver of Vehicle 1 was traveling northbound on Ga. 15,” said Trooper 1st Class Brady Galloway at the scene. “According to witnesses, he was in the right lane and had changed lanes over into the left lane. They said while he did that he lost control and crossed the median of Ga. 15 and came into the oncoming lane southbound lanes of Ga. 15.”

The truck overturned into the median and blocked the southbound lanes of Ga. 15, as Galloway explained.

“He was traveling north in the left southbound lane, then he swerved at the last second and as he was turning over his trailer struck Vehicle 2’s trailer, which was also a tractor-trailer,” Galloway said.

Galloway said the at-fault driver faces a failure to maintain lane citation.

Ga. 15 was closed for several hours, and the left lane of Ga. 15 northbound was closed for about an hour, resulting in about a two-mile traffic backup.
