No. 1 UNG softball to take on Southern Indiana in opening round

SALEM, Va. — Tuesday was travel day for the top-ranked University of North Georgia softball team as they get set to take on eighth-seeded Southern Indiana in the opening game of the 2018 NCAA Division II Softball Championship at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.

North Georgia comes into the contest on a 19 game winning streak, winning the Peach Belt Conference tournament and Southeast Regional en route to the Nighthawks' fifth trip to the NCAA Championship tournament in program history.

Southern Indiana is in their second championship appearance in program history after making the final eight last season. The Screaming Eagles won the Midwest Regional after upsetting No. 19 Illinois-Springfield last week in the Midwest Super Regional.

First pitch of the game is set for 11 a.m. Thursday morning at the Moyer Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast through NCAA.com with links found on the tournament website.
