The man confirmed this week as Deputy Secretary of Education has been an active member of the Board of Trustees for Riverside Military Academy (RMA) in Gainesville.
Brigadier General Mitchell Zais, US Army, Retired, will step down from his position with RMA to devote his full attention to his new duties as Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ second-in-command, according to a press statement from the school.
General Zais was nominated by President Donald Trump last October. He was confirmed by a 50-48 vote of the United States Senate on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
General Zais served as the President of Newberry College for 10 years before serving as the 17th South Carolina Superintendent of Education from 2011 to 2015.
