Three northeast Georgia area teams will be looking to keep their playoff runs alive on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Georgia High School Association playoffs.
Flowery Branch and Buford will battle at Gerald McQuaig Field in a Class 5A semifinal while Jefferson will head to Roswell to face No. 1-ranked Blessed Trinity in a Class 4A semifinal.
It will be the third and fourth meetings of the season between the Region 8-5A foes Falcons and Wolves. Buford won both regular season meetings over Flowery Branch (14-2 and 6-1) but Flowery Branch has been one of the biggest surprises of the entire playoffs making their first-ever foray into the semfinals in program history. The Falcons come in as one of just three teams in all classifications to win three series on the road and to take down two region champions (Arabia Mountain and Veterans) in the process. Buford, meanwhile, has swept its first three opponents in impressive style outscoring Rome, Decatur, and Ola 52-10 with two shutouts in the playoffs.
Jefferson and Blessed Trinity are no strangers as well. The two teams last met in 2015 in the Class 3A finals with the Dragons falling in a tight two-game sweep in Roswell. The current Jefferson squad has shown plenty of resiliency staving off two elimination games, one each against Chestatee and Woodward Academy, in the playoffs so far. But it will be the first road trip of the 2018 playoffs for the Region 8-4A champion Dragons. The Titans are 17-1 at home in 2018.
