Police look for suspect in Sugar Hill road rage stabbing

By B.J. Williams
A Dahlonega man is hospitalized after what police are calling a road rage incident that happened earlier this week in Sugar Hill.

Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Jake Smith said the incident unfolded Monday evening on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near Little Mill Road.

"We had a victim who was driving home from work and became involved in some sort of altercation with another driver," Smith said. "The other driver got out of his car and approached the victim in his own car, opened the victim's car door and stabbed him with some sort of knife multiple times."

A police report indicated the victim, identified as Jesse Cole of Dahlonega, pulled his vehicle to the side of the road after he was stabbed. He was discovered by other drivers, who stopped to render aid. Cole was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he was last reported in serious condition.

Smith said Cole was able to get a photo of the suspect's vehicle as it drove away.

"We've sent that out, but it's not actually good enough to read the tag, unfortunately, so we are looking for the public's help in identifying who this person [is] and who this vehicle might belong to," Smith said.

He said they believe the vehicle is a blue Mazda Protege' 5, probably an early 2000s model.

Smith said the victim was able to give a description of the suspect.

"The suspect is a white male, 30 to 40 years old, with either a shaved head or a buzz cut, a very close buzz cut. He's about 5 foot, 8 inches tall and about 160 lbs.," Smith said.

Smith said the victim and the suspect did not know one another. He said investigators have not yet determined what kind of argument might have led to the stabbing.
