Gainesville man charged with meth trafficking

A Gainesville man is facing drug trafficking charges after investigators found over 7.5 ounces of meth in his Sardis Road home.

Lt. Dona Scalia with the Hall County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad said they searched the home of David Lee Thomas, 53, on May 2.

"During the search warrant we seized a little over seven and a half ounces of meth, packaged in six separate bags," said Scalia.

Investigators also located two tablets of Alprazolam, approximately two grams of marijuana, digital scales, packaging materials and drug paraphernalia. They also seized just over $2,000 and a pistol.

"The total street value for all the drugs is just over $21,000," said Scalia.

Thomas faces trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of Alprazolam, possession of marijuana (misdemeanor) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Thomas's home was in the 3000 block of Sardis Road, near the middle and high school. "It's always a concern when it's near any kind of daycare facility or school or anything like that at all... we try to jump on those cases when we receive information like that, get that investigated as quickly as possible."

Scalia said Thomas was arrested and booked into the Hall County Jail without incident.
