Golf: GHS boys head to Area tournament on back of third place finish

GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville boys golf team will take to the links of Bartram Trail Golf Club in Evans today in search of a spot in the Class 6A state championship.

The Red Elephants finished third at The Invite on Saturday in their final home match of the season at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville.

Andrew Hughes fired a two-day total of 145 to lead Gainesville at The Invite, as the Red Elephants carded a 588 as a team. Columbus finished first with a 584; Marist was second with a 586. 

Davis Weaver's 146 was second for Gainesville, including a 2-under-par 70 on Saturday. Ryan Hogan also carded a 147, and Brody Simmons scored a 150.

Gainesville must finish in the top four at the Area 2-6A Championship in order to book a spot in the state championship tournament at Jekyll Island, May 21-22.
