Re-accreditation: Gainesville Police Dept. seeks public input

By AccessWDUN staff

The Gainesville Police Department is seeking the public's input as it approaches re-accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

The department is conducting a survey of citizens’ attitudes and opinions in keeping with its commitment to correcting actions, practices, and attitudes that may contribute to community tensions and grievances.

"It is extremely important that we establish feedback in these areas so that we can continually strive to provide a professional delivery of police services to the City of Gainesville," according to a police department news release.  "We are asking our citizens and community partners to take a brief moment to complete a short survey. The survey is located on the department’s website, https://www.gainesville.org/community-survey/, under the Police Department section; it is available in English or Spanish. The responses will remain anonymous unless you indicate otherwise by including your name and address."

The surveys will be tabulated once they are completed and the results will be published in the department's annual report.

“It is imperative the police department keep open channels of communication with the community and citizens in which we strive to serve and protect. The citizen’s response to this survey will aid us in better assisting the community we are proud to serve," said Chief Carol Martin.

A link to the survey form can be found on the department's website.
