Deadline to register to vote May 22 close at hand

Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote in the Georgia primaries May 22.

To register you must:

*Be a citizen of the United States

*Be a legal resident of the county in which you wish to register

*Be at least 17 1/2 years old to register and 18 years old to vote

*Not be serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude

*Have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge  

Voter registration/elections offices handle voter registration in each county in Georgia.  In addition, online registration is also available.  Other voter registration and general voting information can be found on the Georgia Secretary of State's Website.

By-mail absentee ballots are already available and have been since April 3.  Early, in-person voting begins April 30 and ends May 18, with mandatory Saturday voting May 12.
