Cornelia child flown for care after being struck, pinned by vehicle

CORNELIA — The Georgia State Patrol has released details of the wreck that injured a Cornelia child Saturday night.

Quadelupe Ortero, 6, was struck by a 2001 Honda Civic LX as she chased a ball across a driveway at the home off Old Cleveland Road, according to the GSP report.

The car was traveling south, attempting to turn left into the driveway of 251 South Quail Trail when its front end struck the child.

The male driver told the investigating trooper he did not see the child.

“The female’s lower body was pinned under the vehicle,” the GSP report states.

After the vehicle was lifted off the child, she was taken by ambulance to the parking lot of nearby Cornelia Elementary School, where a medical flight crew took over care to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

The extent of her injuries and her condition were not available Sunday.

No charges were filed.
