UPDATE: Lumpkin County deputy, two others injured in White County car accident

A Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office deputy is expected to make a full recovery after he sustained injuries in a Sunday morning traffic accident in White County.

Lumpkin County Sheriff's Lt. Alan Roach said Deputy Donald "Steven" Lewis was traveling home after working an overnight shift when he and two other vehicles collided on Hwy. 115 in the area of Ferguson Circle and Tall Pine Lane.

Lewis and the drivers of the two other vehicles were taken to  Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville as a result of injuries from the traffic crash.

"There were some broken bones and there were some stitches he [Lewis] had to receive," Roach said.

He did not know the conditions of the other two drivers, saying the Georgia State Patrol would handle the accident investigation.

According to Roach, Lewis has been a certified peace officer for the state of Georgia since 2010 and an employee of the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office since 2016.
