Baseball: Dragons beat St. Pius, one win from 8-4A title

By AccessWDUN

ATLANTA — Jefferson finished off a three-game sweep of St. Pius Friday with an 8-3 win on the road and put its magic number to clinch the Region 8-4A title at one with just three games left in the season.

The Dragons (17-7, 10-2 Region 8-4A) open a three-game series at home on Monday against Madison County to close out the regular season. One win over the Red Raiders or one North Oconee loss to Oconee County next week will give Jefferson the title.

On Friday, the Dragons used a six-run seventh inning to break open a 2-2 tie with the Gilden Lions. Patrick Hickox got the win in relief despite allowing a run in the seventh. Vinny Farley went six innings for the Dragons allowing just two runs on four hits and striking out seven but got a no-decision.

Zac Corbin, Justin Cole, Lane Watkins, and Kade McNally all had two hits for Jefferson.
