UPDATE: Girl hit by car in Gainesville Thursday, airlifted to Atlanta hospital

A 4-year-old girl Hall County girl was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital after being hit by a taxi Thursday afternoon.

Hall County Fire Services Captain Zachary Brackett said the girl was struck on Holland Street around 4:35 p.m.

Brackett said emergency responders advised Northeast Georgia Medical Center of the extent of the girl's injuries and the hospital advised she be flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite.

The child was then transported to Lee Gilmer Airport and then flown to Atlanta for treatment.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP), which is handling the accident investigation, identified the child as Genessi Hernandez. Troopers said the child was walking with her mother when they crossed the street.

"The pedestrian crossed the street heading north then turned around to head south when she was stuck by [the vehicle] in the roadway," an email from GSP read.

The driver of the taxi will not be charged, according to GSP.
