Multi-family corridor considered in Forsyth County

The director of the Forsyth County Planning Department introduced an idea for a multi-family corridor zoned along Georgia 400 during the recent work session Tuesday.

Tom Brown told the board he wanted to present the idea and get initial feed back from commissioners.

Discussions included questions about the necessity of the corridor due to the existing comprehensive plan already in place.

District 3 Commissioner Todd Levent seemed in favor of the proposal but added, "Not that I want apartments but, if we're going to have (them) in mixed use, that they stay within this corridor, 400, where it's close because they're going to create a lot of extra traffic. Usually, all of these roads are four lanes that meet up with 400; which is a 6-lane and then an 8-lane."

If they move forward, the new zoning could change the existing comprehensive plan.

The group agreed that more research needed to be done before moving forward with a decision and will discuss it at a future work session..
