Baseball: Stephens leads Lumpkin County past Warriors

DAHLONEGA — Lumpkin County snapped a six-game losing streak with a 15-4, six-inning victory over White County Tuesday in non-region action.

Dalton Stephens pounded out four hits to lead a 13-hit Indians attack, including a triple and a double and had three RBI.

The Indians (10-13) plated a run in the first on a Braylen Chastain sacrifice fly scoring Stephens. White County (7-15) took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second but Lumpkin County exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inningto take the lead for good.

Stephens singled to start the second and Conner Pierce later singled in two runs. Jacob Martin followed with a two-run single and Nick Turner also drove in a run for the Indians.

Lumpkin added a run in the fourth for an 8-2 lead but the Warriors trimmed it to 8-4 with two runs in the sixth. The Indians invoked the Mercy Rule with a seven-run sixth. Pierce, Harris Taylor, Dalton Caldwell, Chase Beamon, and Stephens all had RBI hits in the inning.

Matthew Grizzle got the win on the mound for Lumpkin allowing just three hits and two runs over two innings, striking out one and walking zero. Tucker Kirk, Stephens, Austin Black, and Eli Wingo all pitched in relief for Lumpkin County.

Loggins took the loss for White County going three innings allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out three and walking one.

Lumpkin County will play host to Lakeview Academy on Friday in a doubleheader set to begin at 5 p.m.

White County will travel to Franklin County on Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. first pitch.
