Tennis: Gainesville teams march on to region championship matches

GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville boys and girls tennis teams each played their way into the Region 8-6A tournament championship match via Tuesday wins at Longwood Park.

The Lady Red Elephants swept Habersham Central 3-0, winning at No. 1 and 2 singles and No. 1 doubles to secure a spot in Wednesday's championship match.

Ali Waggoner won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Madi Kiser won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. The doubles team prevailed 6-2, 6-1.

Gainesville plays Lanier at 2 p.m. 

The Red Elephants will take on Winder-Barrow at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the final after taking out Apalachee 3-1 on Tuesday.

Gainesville got wins from Dylan Pineda, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, as well as victories from doubles teams Max Wuest and Caleb Anderson, 6-2 6-4, at 1 and Michael Head and Joseph Diaz 7-5, 6-1, at 2.
