North Georgia's Sabol leads UWG Spring Invitational after 36 holes

CARROLLTON — Sophomore Megan Sabol used an opening-round 71 to take a lead early and followed that with a second-round 75 to lead the University of North Georgia women's golf team Monday at the UWG Wolves Spring Invitational at Sunset Hills Country Club. The Nighthawks sit in fourth after 36 holes in the seven-team field.

The sophomore from Augusta, Georgia, leads the 37-player field by five strokes over West Georgia's Franziska Bremm headed into the final round. Also in the top 10 for North Georgia is Jordyn Sims, who shot a 158 on the opening day of the tournament, good for a tie for sixth.

West Georgia leads the team race by 11 strokes over Columbus State, firing a 623 in the first 36 holes. Young Harris is in third with a 636, seven strokes better than UNG, and West Alabama rounds out the top five.

The final round will take place tomorrow with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start at Sunset Hills.
