Lillie Mae Green, co-founder of Green's Grocery, dies at 99

The woman who founded Green's Grocery in Gainesville with her husband in 1950 died Thursday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Lillie Mae Green, who owned and ran the store on Riverside Drive with her husband Frank until their retirement in 1995, was 99.

The Greens also were known for their donation of $4 million to Northeast Georgia Health System, which lead to the establishment of the Ronnie Green Heart Center at NGMC. The facility opened in 2002 and was named after the Greens' only son, who died at age 55 after suffering a heart attack.

Funeral services for Lillie Mae Green will be held Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. at Gainesville First United Methodist Church.

Little & Davenport Funeral Home and Crematory of Gainesville is in charge of funeral arrangements.
