(UPDATE) Basketball: Sokol taking over at North Forsyth

By AccessWDUN

COAL MOUNTAIN — David Sokol, who guided the Flowery Branch boys basketball team to its first-ever Lanierland Championship in 2015, has been hired as the new North Forsyth boys coach.

He was officially approved by the Forsyth County Board of Education on Tuesday night. Sokol will be takingo over from Brian Moon, who resigned last month after seven seasons in Coal Mountain.

Sokol stepped down as Falcons head coach last week after five seasons.

After finishing 5-20 in his first season at Flowery Branch, Sokol quickly turned the Falcons' program around, compiling a 67-42 record over the next four seasons, which included GHSA state tournament appearances in 2017 and 2018. The 2018 team advanced to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Sokol is no stranger to Forsyth County. He led South Forsyth from 2002-09 and advanced to the state tournament four times.

He will have a challenge on his hands with a North Forsyth program that has not made the state tournament since 2006. The Raiders finished last in Region 5-AAAAAAA in 2017-18 going 1-9 in region play and just 6-19 overall.
