Piedmont track and field competitors honored

NEW ORLEANS — Piedmont track and field sophomores Julia Graham and Alvin Jacobs earned NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-Region Honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.

Graham earned distinction in the 400m while Jacobs earned honors in the 800m.

To qualify for All-Region status, an athlete must finish in the top-5 in an event in their respective region. The Lions compete in the South/Southeast Region.

This is the second time in the young history of Piedmont track and field that the Lions have athletes named to the Indoor All-Region team. KYLE RAY earned honors in pole vaulting in 2017.

Each runner set new school records in their All-Region events in their last indoor event of the season at the JDL Fast Track. Jacobs ran a 1:55.70 in the 800m while Graham posted a time of 59.08 in the 400m.

Both runners also set new marks in the Distance Medley Relay and the 4x400m.

In the women's DMR, Graham teamed with Analee Bradach, Sloan Fletcher and Mackenzie Devine to set a time of 13:39.09 in the Southern Challenge. In the 4x400m, the team of Graham, Bradach, Karla Cantrell and Taleya Liddell to run a time of 4:09.89 in the Buccaneer Invitational.

Jacobs teamed with Brandon Leftwich, Christian Larmony and John Mbadugha in the men's 4x400m and ran a 3:30.92 in the Southern Challenge. In the DMR, he teamed with Larmony, Max Miller and Bryce Griggs to set a time of 10:47.72 in the Buccaneer Invitational.
