Suwanee approves modified plan for neighborhood on church site

Suwanee City Council has given the green light for a new neighborhood to take over the site of Suwanee First Baptist Church on Eva Kennedy Road.

The developer, Spartan Investors, LLC, tweaked its initial site plan, which called for 93 townhomes, to one that called for 78 total homes that would be split roughly 50-50 between townhomes and single family detached homes, said Marty Allen, city manager.

The existing church building will be demolished to make way for the neighborhood, which will feature single family homes at the front, toward Eva Kennedy Road, and townhomes in the rear of the property.

"(Council) approved a revised concept plan that was submitted, and a revised layout that was submitted," said Allen, noting that the Suwanee Planning Commission recommended denial of the initial plans.

Still, the new plan didn't win over the entire council.

Councilman Dan Foster voted against it, the lone dissenting vote in a  4-1 decision Tuesday evening. Mayor Jimmy Burnette was absent from the meeting, said Allen.
