Hall County Schools: Source of FBHS gun violence rumor determined

Officials with the Hall County School District said Friday in an email statement they have located the source of a rumor at Flowery Branch High School earlier this week involving a student and an alleged attack on the school.

School system spokesman Gordon Higgins said the text message in question came from a high school student in East Texas and was referencing a situation that happened at that school. Higgins said after they asked for anyone with information to contact administration, a student who had recently moved to Flowery Branch from East Texas said the text had been sent to her by the East Texas student about an incident at that particular school.

"However, as is often the case with social media messages, it became distorted as it was resent through text. This was confirmed to be true by the investigation and no charges have been made against the student nor will any discipline be imposed by the school. For privacy issues, the name of this student will not be revealed," said Higgins in the email statement.

The rumor claimed a student had been sent to in-school suspension (ISS) for weapons possession and had threatened retaliation against the school.
