Tennis: Branch teams sweep North Hall; Johnson girls edge Chestatee

The Flowery Branch boys and girls tennis teams swept past cross-county foes North Hall on Thursday.

The Falcons prevailed 5-0 against the Trojans in North Hall's opening match of the season, while the Lady Falcons took a 4-1 victory.

In the boys' match, Branch's Drayton Matus defeated North Hall's Masa Kobayashi 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Nathan Holley took out Adam Turcotte 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. 
And at No. 3 singles, Jack Thomas defeated Ethan Surles 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles play, Falcons' No. 1 team of John Hollis/Brady McVey won 6-3, 6-1 over Christian Boychuk/Kody Dills, while the No. 2 match saw the Falcons' Matthew Helms/Trey Snell defeat Forrester Terry/Jackson Roush 6-0, 6-0.

In the girls match, Flowery Branch's Annabell Thomas defeated Anna Montgomery 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Olivia Correa won over Christen Barnes 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile, Olivia Nance edged North Hall's Sydney Patterson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

The Lady Trojans did pick up a point at No. 1 doubles, as Lauren Davis/Baylee Turner defeated Brenna Martin/Alyssa McSpadden 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. But the Branch's No. 2 team of Alicia Quast/Kendalle Quest picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Raquel Kallab/Ella Oxley.

North Hall will look to bounce back at Athens Academy on Tuesday.

CHESTATEE 2:

The Lady Knights swept the singles contests to clinch the match with the Lady War Eagles on Thursday. 

Perla Rivera won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for Johnson, while Anna Cooper won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Morgan Langley prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Chestatee swept the doubles points, winning No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-0 and No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-1.
