Former Clarkesville attorney faces felony theft charge

CLARKESVILLE — A former Clarkesville attorney who accepted voluntary disbarment recently now faces criminal charges.

Lorne Cragg, 51, of Cornelia was booked in at the Habersham County Detention Center in Clarkesville on Tuesday, Feb. 20. He is charged with felony theft by conversion.

The State Bar accepted, and the Justices of the Georgia Supreme Court concurred with, the voluntary surrender of Cragg’s law license.

The disciplinary matter, according to Cragg’s petition for voluntary surrender of license, is based on misappropriating client trust funds for personal use.

At the time of his license surrender, Cragg had been a partner at Lorne H. Cragg, Attorney at Law, since May 2009.

The decision by the Supreme Court of Georgia was reached Jan. 29.

Cragg was released on an own recognizance bond, per the judge Wednesday.
