The Hard Left Turn podcast is your dose of weekly motorsports banter between Game On's Katie B. Davis and Around the Track editor Brandon Reed.

In Sunday's Daytona 500, very few prognosticator's had Austin Dillon driving to the win, however, that's exactly how it happened, with Darrell Wallace Jr. coming in second. The Great American race was one filled with great American crashes, so much so that nearly half the field was taken out and only 25 cars finished the 2018 season opener. In this week's edition of the Hard Left Turn podcast, Brandon and Katie B. discuss:

Beginning of show: Sounds from the 60th running of the Daytona 500 provided by Fox Sports

3-minute mark: Thoughts on Austin Dillon's manuever on the last lap that led to his win (with highlight audio)

  • How hard was the NASCAR public relations machine working this weekend?

10:34-minute mark: Aric Almirola gracious in the face of defeat

12:24-minute mark: Possibly a bigger story than Dillon winning was Bubba Wallace finishing second, did he prove himself in NASCAR's Super Bowl? (with audio of Wallace meeting with the media after the race)

22:30-minute mark: A crash on Lap 120 meant the end of the day for Dawsonville's Chase Elliott, but also Danica Patrick, could it have been avoided? (with highlight audio)

33:29-minute mark: Thoughts on Patrick's final stock car race (with audio of Patrick speaking to the media)

36:30-minute mark: What's coming up this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where Brandon and Pete McCole will be trackside bringing you all the weekend's action.

The coaching shuffle of 2018 continued Wednesday with the news that Tony Lotti would be leaving West Hall after six years to become the head football coach at Apalachee High School. In this week's edition of the Prep Talk podcast, Morgan Lee and Katie B. discuss Lotti's exit and the upcoming region basketball tournaments.

FROM DOWNTOWN: Stopping to smell the roses
I didn’t think there was a halftime adjustment good enough to bring the Bulldogs back Monday night. After Oklahoma’s last score of the first half, dejected and slumped on a couch, phone attuned to Twitter, I said aloud to no one in particular, “We’re just getting our (hineys) kicked.”

Prep Talk Podcast with Morgan Lee and Katie B. (1-24-18)
Within a week's time, the Gainesville athletic department - already looking to fill a vacant softball coaching position - was charged with finding replacements for two long-tenured coaches as football coach Bruce Miller retired and baseball coach Jeremy Kemp announced he was leaving his position at GHS after the 2018 season concludes. Those two stories combined with state championship wrestling and the last two weeks of the high school basketball season made for a lengthy Jan. 24 edition of the Prep Talk Podcast.
