Fire destroys home on Ga. 356 in Batesville community

CLARKESVILLE — Firefighters from Habersham and White counties worked for nearly three hours to extinguish a fire in the Batesville community Tuesday night.

“We responded to 2059 State Highway 356 to a doublewide trailer fully involved upon arrival,” said Habersham County Assistant Fire Chief Jason Davey.

Habersham County responded with two engines, two tankers, an ambulance, the EMS supervisor and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department. Additionally, White County sent two tankers and an engine.

“We had so many trucks responding due to not having a positive water source in the Batesville area,” Davey said. “We used approximately 9,000 gallons of water.”

The fire was dispatched at 8:22 p.m., and firefighters remained on scene until about 11 p.m.

No one was inside the house when firefighters arrived.

“The owner stated he did have a fire in the wood heater, but the cause remains under investigation,” Davey said.

No injuries were reported.
