Over the past 16 days, motorists have seen about a nine cent decrease in gas prices, with Sunday's statewide average at $2.41.
According to AAA, that price is three cents less than a month ago.
GasBuddy.com, another fuel price tracking website, indicates their reports show a decrease of 5.9 cents to $2.36 a gallon.
"For the second straight week, average gasoline prices fell, with nearly every state declining week-over-week as retail gas prices saw more catching up to the previous decline in crude oil prices," said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "The trend may not be over just yet, but oil prices have rebounded from their lows and are again strengthening, which may cut the party at the pump short in the weeks ahead. Worth watching is U.S. shale oil production values which continue to increase, which may limit oil's rally moving forward, but dead ahead on the calendar is still turnaround season at the nation's refiners which promises at least some short-term pain for long-term gain."
AAA spokesman Garrett Townsend said prices declined as expected, due to oil and gasoline production in the U.S. "Although motorists may see additional discounts at the pump this week, this downward trend has a limit. AAA expects gas prices will shoot-up 20-30 cents between March and May, as refineries conduct seasonal maintenance and switch to summer-blend gasoline."
Townsend said crude oil prices rose $2.48 per barrel to $61.68 and wholesale gasoline rose three cents last week after declining about 20 cents the previous two weeks.
The highest prices were reported in Fort Stewart at $2,47 and Savannah at $245; the lowest prices were reported in Warner Robins and Augusta-Aiken at $2.34.
