DEMOREST — Taking on the No. 7 team in the nation, Piedmont's baseball team won a dominant 17-2 game against Birmingham-Southern on Sunday. The win clinched the series against the top-ten Panthers and moved the Lions to 3-4 overall.

The Panthers had the lead early with a run in the third inning, but Piedmont put up a three spot in the bottom of the fourth as three straight singles to start the inning set up a three run, five hit inning for PC. Birmingham-Southern answered back in the fifth with a solo home run but that was the last run David Craft would give up as the starter earned his first win of the year tossing six innings giving up six hits and two runs.

Piedmont's bullpen gave up just a single hit as Alex Andrew and Buddy Green combined to toss the final 3 innings.

The game changed in the sixth inning when the Panthers made their first pitching change with two outs and two on. Tyler Sheley was walked and Justin Groover capitalized on the bases loaded opportunity with a bases-clearing double to make it 6-2.

Piedmont continued to pour it on with another eight runs in the seventh inning sending 14 batters to the plate. The Panthers used four pitchers in the inning with a pair recording no outs. The Lions added another three runs in the bottom of the eighth and coasted to a 17-2 victory.
