FLOWERY BRANCH — Senior Jeffrey Jenkins tossed a no-hitter Tuesday to lead West Hall to a 2-0 victory over Flowery Branch in both teams season openers at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.

Jenkins struck out 13 batters and walked just one and got solid defense behind despite the Spartans (1-0) starting three freshmen -- Clayton Jenkins behind the plate, Kyle Murphy at third base and Tyler Maynard at second -- in the lineup due to injuries.

Both West Hall runs came in the fifth. Canaan Koger and Clayton Jenkins each produced sacrifice bunts to help set up the inning for the Spartans. The first run came after a Flowery Branch error and the second run came on a RBI bloop hit by Dylan Simpson.

JC Sewell started for the Falcons (0-1). Andrew Curtin took the loss in relief.

Hunter Samples caught final out in left field for West Hall.

Flowery Branch plays host to North Hall on Wednesday. It is the season opener for the Trojans, who are coming off their first-ever state title season in 2017.

West Hall next will play host to East Hall on Thursday.

The War Eagles used a a four-run second en route to the win on Tuesday in both teams' season openers.

East Hall cut the lead to 4-1 in the third and trimmed it to 5-3 in the fourth. But the War Eagles added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Joe Sutton had a two-run home run and Benson Miller and Micah Flanagan each had RBI for the War Eagles, who pounded out eight hits on the day.

Reggie James and Miller each had two hits for Chestatee.

Levi Crocker had a hit and an RBI and Mikey Parker also had one RBI for East Hall, which managed just four hits.

The Vikings next will travel to West Hall on Thursday.
