High school homecoming queen killed in crash with truck

By The Associated Press

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A high school homecoming queen has been killed in a crash with a tractor-trailer in Georgia.

News outlets report 18-year-old Grace Elizabeth Sheer was killed when her SUV was struck by the truck Monday morning.

The Georgia State Patrol said Sheer "failed to negotiate the curve" near Buddy Burt Road on Highway 53, overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, which veered into the truck's path. The truck was traveling in the opposite direction. The impact sent the SUV down an embankment.

Investigators say both Sheer and truck driver Edwin Kincannon were wearing their seat belts. Kincannon was not injured.

Sheer was a senior at Dawson County High School, where she had been named homecoming queen earlier this school year.

Dawson County residents say the highway's curve is notoriously dangerous.
