Public input meetings set Tuesday, Thursday on Habersham County’s future

CLARKESVILLE — Habersham County officials want to gather input from residents about what they would like to see happen in the county over the next two decades.

As part of the comprehensive plan review process, county leaders have scheduled two public input meetings next week to hear from the public.

Habersham County Director of Planning and Development Mike Beecham explained a little bit about the plan during a break in the recent Habersham County Commission Winter Retreat.

“The comprehensive plan is the county’s plan for the next 20 years,” Beecham said. “If used properly, it will be the county’s guiding document for many of the decisions the local government makes as far as land use, public facilities, things of that nature.”

Two public input meetings will be held next week.

“The first two public input meetings are scheduled for Feb. 13 in Clarkesville at 6 p.m. in the new courthouse, and Feb. 15 in Demorest at the senior center, also at 6 p.m.,” Beecham said.

Beecham explained a little bit about the format for the gatherings, which are drop-in style.

“We’re calling them public input/visioning meetings, so we can kind of determine, with public input, what we are aiming for 20 years down the road,” Beecham said. “It’s not really a presentation. I will be there to answer any questions, try to kickstart the discussion, so to speak, but citizens are welcome to drop in at any time. We’ll probably be there from 6 to 7:30 or 8.”

The meetings are open to the public, and anyone in Habersham County is invited to attend and provide input.

The Habersham County Courthouse is located at 295 Llewellyn St., Clarkesville, and the Habersham County Senior Center is located at 217 Scoggins Drive NE, Demorest.
