Soccer: North Hall girls, Johnson, Chestatee boys, GHS boys and girls open 2018 season with wins

GAINESVILLE — The North Hall girls soccer team opened its 2018 season with a tough 2-1 victory over West Hall Tuesday at The Brickyard.

Myra Zimmerman scored both Lady Trojans (1-0) goals. Maddie Cook had one assist.

Gabby Lowder got the victory in goal for North Hall.

The Lady Trojans will travel to Buford on Friday.


JOHNSON BOYS 10,
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 0

David Flores and Marco Vazque each scored twice, while Diego Chavez, Juan Carlos Gomez, Miguel Rubio, Villanel Albarran, Cooper Bowen and Cole Bowen each scored once as the Knights opened the 2018 campaign with a dominating defeat of the Lions in Gainesville.

Flores, Gomez, Joshua Elizalde, Rigo Campa, Joshua Elizalde and Michael Arcia each provided assists for the Knights (1-0) in the win.

Cooper Bowen and Isias Castaneda combined for the shutout in goal.


CHESTATEE BOYS 2,
FLOWERY BRANCH 0

The Chestatee boys opened their season with a solid 2-0 win over Flowery Branch Tuesday night on the road.  

Uriel Rocha broke a 0-0 tie in the 72nd minute finding the back of the net off a pass from Austin Manzo. Five minutes later Mateus Jennings scored to give the War Eagles (1-0) a cushion. 

War Eagles' keeper Steven Martinez had 10 saves in recording the shutout.

Chestatee next will take on Lumpkin County on Friday in its home opener. Flowery Branch (0-1) will travel to Central Gwinnett on Friday.


GAINESVILLE BOYS 4,
MEADOWCREEK 1

The Red Elephants scored four unanswered second half goals to open their 2018 season with a victory in Norcross against the No. 1-ranked team in Class AAAAAAA.

Darvin Velasquez scored twice for Gainesville, while Jovanei Santana and Dennis Turcios provided one goal apiece for the Red Elephants (1-0) 

Jorge Vasquez and Turcios each provided assists in the win.


GAINESVILLE GIRLS 11,
MEADOWCREEK 1

The Lady Red Elephants (1-0) strolled to the season-opening win on Tuersday in Norcross, as Isabela Portes, Cindy Bonilla, Anna Ruiz and Alondra Fuerte each scored two goals.

Amayia Lukie, Ashley Acosta and Jessica Hackney also scored one goal apiece for Gainesville.

The Lady Red Elephants play again on Feb. 13 at Oconee County.
