Boys basketball: Banks , Gainesville, Branch and Lakeview close strong

HOMER — The Banks County boys basketball team dominated Oglethorpe County for a 91-66 victory on Friday in Homer, rounding out the regular season with a win.

The Leopards (21-4, 10-2 Region 8-AA) took a 28-16 lead after the first quarter and continued to pull away.

Dylan Orr paced Banks with 25 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist and 4 blocks, while Carl Cleveland added 21 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist. Darius Bonds also scored 14 points and added 4 rebounds and 12 assists, while Gatlin Lunsford chipped in with 10 points and 3 rebounds. 

Banks County plays host to a Region 8-AA tournament game at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Social Circle.


GAINESVILLE BOYS 79,
APALACHEE 49

KJ Buffen scored 20 points to lead the Red Elephants (18-6, 10-0 Region 8-AAAAAA) to the win in their regular season finale on Friday night.

Kajuan Hale added points 11 and Raphael Rubel and Griffin Nevel each scored 10 in the win.

Gainesville next plays in the 8-AAAAAA tournament next week.


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 54
CHATTANOOGA CHRISTIAN 52

The Lions (19-6) closed out the regular season with a hardfought win on Friday in Gainesville.

Drew Cottrell posted 12 points and 10 rebounds to help lead Lakeview on senior night, while Blake McIntyre added 9 points, including the game-winning lay-up with :07 remaining. Evan Pitts also scored 8.

Lakeview plays again at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Commerce in the Region 8-A tournament against an opponent to be determined.


FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 44,
WALNUT GROVE 36

The Falcons (15-10, 6-6 Region 8-AAAAA) held on for the win on Friday, led by 18 points from Justin Quick. 

Patsheko Lutumba also scored 13 in the win. 

The Branch plays again on Tuesday at Clarke Central in the 8-AAAAA tournament against an opponent to be determined.
