Girls basketball: Dawson, Banks, Branch close out regular season with wins; Lakeview falls

GAINESVILLE — Despite 17 points from Madie Blackburn, the Lakeview Academy girls fell to Chattanooga Christian 40-34 Friday night at home in the Lady Lions' season finale.

Blackburn added 3 assists and 3 steals for Lakeview.  Sadie Thrailkil added 12 points and 7 rebounds for the Lady Lions. 

The Lady Lions are off until Tuesday when they take part in the Region 8-A Tournament at Commerce. They will have to wait until Saturday's play-in games to find our who their opponent will be.


DAWSON COUNTY GIRLS 70,
UNION COUNTY 38

The Lady Tigers blew open a close game outscoring Union County 43-22 in the second and third quarter in both teams' Region 7-AAA season finales.

The win gave Dawson County (14-10, 6-6 Region 7-AAA) the No. 4 seed while Union County (15-9, 6-6) finished fifth. The Lady Tigers had 11 players score, led by Kaylee Sticker's 25 points. Anna Lowe finished with 10 points for Dawson County. Marlie Townley, who was playing in her first game of the season following a knee injury, scored 4 points for Dawson.
  
It was a close game early with Dawson County leading just 11-9. But the Lady Tigers exploded taking a 32-21 lead into halftime and extending it to 54-31 heading into the fourth quarter.


BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 68,
OGLETHORPE COUNTY 11

Allison Smith oured in 27 points to go with 7 rebounds to lead the Lady Leopards to the lopsided win at home in their season finale. Smith also went over the 1,000-point barrier in the game as well.

The win moved Banks County (20-5, 10-2 Region 8-AA) into a first place tie with Putnam County.

Morgan Lyons recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. for Banks County. Maddie Thomas added 10 points, Jaycie Bowen 8 points, and Layna Parson 7 points for the Lady Leopards.


FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 71,
WALNUT GROVE 17

The Lady Falcons ran out to a 27-3 first quarter lead en route to the win on Friday.

Lexie Sengkhammee paced Flowery Branch with 20 points, while Taniyah Worth and Ashley Woodroffe each scored 9.
