Gwinnett Police secure warrants in church vehicle theft

Gwinnett Police located a stolen church van and secured warrants for a possible suspect as January came to a close.

The van was stolen during the overnight of Jan. 16 and 17.  Gwinnett Police reported it was located in Hall County, heavily damaged by fire, this past weekend.

Authorities said tipsters, having viewed surveillance video, lead them to Shannon Beauford, 23, of Gainesville as the possible suspect.

As of January 31, Beauford was in the Hall County Jail. A Gwinnett County detective met with Beauford in the jail and afterwards secured warrants for burglary, theft by taking motor vehicle, vandalism to a place of worship and possession of tools for the commission of a crime. Beauford was reportedly involved in another case the night before the burglary and because of that incident, he is also facing obstruction of a law enforcement officer charge. Charges stemming from the vehicle fire will come from Hall County Sheriff's Office, according to the update.

Beauford will also remain in the Hall County Jail until his transfer is authorized.

Gwinnett Police lastly thanked the people who sent in information and tips during the investigation and all the other cases they work, stating, "without their helpful information, criminals would have more opportunities to victimize others."
