State Senator turns himself in to the Hall County Detention Center

The attorney for a state senator and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate said his client turned himself in to Hall County authorities on Wednesday but should be released soon.

A. J. Richman represents Forsyth County Republican Michael Williams and said he already negotiated bond for his client, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Williams turned himself into the Hall County Detention Center Wednesday after being indicted on charges including insurance fraud and making a false statement to GBI investigators.

The incident that led to the charges occurred in May when Williams told detectives someone broke into his Hall County campaign office and stole computer equipment being used for mining cryptocurrency.

Williams will remain a member of the Georgia State Senate until January 14, 2019 when he will be succeeded by Republican Greg Dolezal.
