The Dillard House lodging damaged by Sunday-afternoon fire

Four rooms in a motel building at The Dillard House were damaged by fire Sunday.

“At 12:51pm, Rabun County Fire Services Stations 1, 5, and 12, as well as Otto FD from Macon County, N.C., responded to a report of a fire at The Dillard House in one of the motel buildings,” said Rabun County Fire Services Assistant Chief Justin Upchurch.”

Franklin Fire, also from North Carolina, was requested to respond with the department’s ladder truck.

“The first units on scene advised of fire and heavy smoke coming from the end of the motel,” Upchurch said. “The fire appeared to have traveled into the attic space and was burning above the motel rooms. [Rabun County] Stations 6 and 9 were requested to respond due to no hydrants being located in the immediate vicinity of the complex. The fire ultimately breached the roof before being brought under control at 1:43.”

Upchurch said Dillard Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating, and no cause of the fire has yet been determined.

Two rooms at the end of the building sustained heavy fire damage and two more received smoke and water damage, according to Upchurch.
