Rabid raccoon turns up in Murrayville

By AccessWDUN Staff

A rabid raccoon recently came into contact with a dog in Murrayville in Hall County's seventh confirmed rabies case of 2018.

Hall County officials said the incident happened in the 5800 block of Bark Camp Road. The raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab- Virology Section in Decatur, and Hall County Animal Control officials learned Tuesday the raccoon tested positive for rabies.

The last confirmed rabies incident in the county occurred in the Buford area in August.

Positive alert signs have posted in the area where the rabid animal was located.

Animal control officials encourage pet owners to vaccinate their domesticated animals for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Rd, Gainesville.
