Two men killed in Monday crash in Dawson County

The Georgia State Patrol is working to determine what caused a deadly head-on collision on Georgia 400 in Dawson County Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. near Henry Grady Highway when a Lincoln Town Car being driven by Tony Ray Chastain, 56, of Dawsonville crossed the median from the left southbound lane and traveled into northbound traffic. Chastain's vehicle struck a pick-up truck being driven by Colquit Juanez Thompson, 63, of Dahlonega.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.

Investigators have all but ruled out distracted driving, drugs or alcohol factors in the crash. They also said while it was raining at the time of the accident, weather did not appear to be a contributing factor in the accident.

Troopers said both men were wearing seat belts.

The accident closed the northbound lanes of Georgia 400 for almost four hours.
