(UPDATE) Girls basketball: Dawson, Buford take tourney titles; Chestatee 3rd in Tiger Tip-off

DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County used a huge second quarter to grab the lead and pull away for a 48-33 win over South Forsyth Tuesday to win the 2018 Tiger Tip-off Classic title held at Dawson County High School.

Meanwhile, the Chestatee girls whipped Cumberland Christian 54-29 in the third-place game of The Tiger Tip-off Classic.

For Dawson County (3-0) the Lady Tigers trailed 12-9 after the opening frame but outscored the Lady War Eagles 22-2 in the second to take a 31-1 halftime lead. The two teams staged a defensive battle in the second half scoring just 36 total points combined as Dawson County maintained its big lead throughout.

Kaylee Sticker led Dawson County with 24 points. Maddie Anglin chipped in with 8 for the Lady Tigers.

Dawson County is off until traveling to take on Flowery Branch on Nov. 29.

For Chestatee, 10 different Lady War Eagles (2-3) scored in the victory. Maggie McNair led the way for Chestatee with 12 points. Beth Eddins had 10 points.

Chestatee next will travel to Providence Christian on November 27th.

GRAYSON 58

Tate Walters scored 12 points and was named tournament MVP to lead Buford to the victory and the tournament title in the Dacula Tip-off Classic.

Blair Wallace poured in 15 points to lead the Lady Wolves against the Lady Rams.

Buford will be off until playing host to Morgan County on Nov. 27.

 

WINDER-BARROW 71
WHITE COUNTY 63

The Lady Warriors could not hold an early lead as they fell to the Class 6A Lady Bulldoggs.

White County led 17-15 after the first quarter and led in the second quarter before Winder-Barrow grabbed the lead for good with a 16-10 run and a 31-27 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldoggs extended their lead to 48-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

Both teams put on a display with 23 points apiece in the final period but the Lad Warriors could never regain the lead.

Naomi Crumley paced White County with 14 points. Maddie Futch added 12 points and Dasha Cannon had 9 for the Lady Warriors.

Chellia Watson led Winder-Barrow with 19 points. Kiona Lindsey had 18 points and Taniyah Parrish poured in 17 for the Lady Bulldoggs.

 

UNION COUNTY 43
TOWNS COUNTY 31

The Lady Panthers closed out the game against their nearby rivals with a 17-2 run to rally for the victory Tuesday.
 
Union County trailed 29-26 before launching the decisive run. Andelin Hill and Brooke Dockery each hit several big 3-pointers to get things started.
 
Freshman Ava Hunter had 24 points to lead Union County.
 
LAKEVIEW 56
STARRS MILL 31
 
Joelle Snider scored 10 points and Jasmine Howard had 9 points to lead the Lady Lions past Starr's Mill 56-31 Tuesday in the Keller Williams Classic at North Forsyth High School.
 
Maddy Towles and Eliza Snider chipped in 8 points each, Savannah Kinsey had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Sadie Thrailkill had 5 points and 8 boards. 
 
Lakeview (2-2) will play at Athens Academy on Nov. 28. Game time is 6 p.m.
