Girls basketball: Lady Knights, West Hall, Chestatee get first wins; Bluff falls

OAKWOOD — The Johnson girls, under new management in Jared Hodge, won their season opener Friday night rallying for a 43-36 win over Oglethorpe County at the Johnson gym.

The Lady Knights (1-0) trailed most of the first half falling behind 16-5 after the first quarter. But they surrendered just 20 points over the final three quarters pulling to within 22-18 by halftime and then using a 10-3 third quarter to grab the lead for good.

Jazmyn Gooch poured in 15 points to lead Johnson. Emily Orr had 10 points and Carleigh Odell added 9 points, 8 coming in the second half, for the Lady Knigts.

Nikya Meadows paced Oglethorpe with 12 points.

 

WEST HALL GIRLS 53
EAST JACKSON 45

West Hall also got its first win for new coach Shawanna Harrison Friday night in the East Jackson tournament.

Kinsey Wilson had a huge game for the Lady Spartans (1-1) with 22 points and 16 rebounds. Aashyah White poured in 14 points and India Johnson added 10 for West Hall.

The Spartans will be back in action in the East Jackson tournament on Tuesday taking on Class 7A Milton.

The Lady War Eagles also bagged their first win of the season Friday night in The Banker’s Classic at Jackson County.

Nicole Sedwick paced Chestatee (1-1) with 14 points. Kaylie Barrett added 9 points, Emma Easterwood 8, Christina Garcia had 7 points, and Beth Eddins chipped in 6 for the Lady War Eagles..

Chestatee will be back in action on Saturday in the finals of The Banker's Classic taking on T.L. Hanna (S.C.) 3 p.m. at the Jackson County gym.

 

FORSYTH CENTRAL GIRLS 71
CHEROKEE BLUFF 45

Cherokee Bluff suffered its first loss of the season to Class 7A Forsyth Central Friday night on the road.

The Lady Bears (1-1) were paced by Maddie Thomas's 16 points. Timber Gaither added 12 points, Chelsea Reece chipped in 8 points, and Brandyn Peterson had 4 pts and 9 rebounds.

Cherokee Bluff next will take on West Forsyth at Forsyth Central at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
