Spill dumps 188,000 gallons of wastewater into Forsyth Co. creek

An estimated 188,000 gallons of wastewater mixed with stormwater spilled into a Forsyth County creek Tuesday.

Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department said the spill happened at a manhole on Carolene Way.  Workers blamed an excessive amount of stormwater entering the sanitary sewer system.

The spill entered Big Creek near the Fowler Water Reclamation Facility. Workers pumped out the excessive debris and treated the area with lime to mitigate the effects of the spill.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has been notified of the spill.
