Worship center in North Forsyth County delayed by planning commission

A church congregation that meets on Buford Dam Road in Forsyth County wants to build a new facility on land they purchased in the north part of the county, but the neighbors do not like the idea.

The Forsyth County Planning Commission heard from several people who object to a new Iglesia Luz Y Vida worship center being built along Bennett Road, including Andy Coleman. Coleman told the planning commission, "The rural nature of this area is why we came to live here. The thought of a large service-based busines with 134 parking spaces and a structure the size of Walgreens on this narrow, country road is baffling."

Dana Tatum spoke against the development and said, "It has always been my dream to be a homeowner, to be a mother, and to raise my daughter in a small town, country setting like this. This is exactly what Bennett Road offered then, still offers today, and should remain rural at all costs."

The church wants to build a 24,000 square foot facility with 134 parking spaces on Bennett Road but need the planning commission to approve a conditional use permit in order to move forward.

The commission decided to delay the decision until their next regular meeting in November 13th.
