TOCCOA — Three people were arrested in Toccoa after a pair of reported aggravated assaults in the city last week.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, his officers were notified of an aggravated assault on South Alexander Street on Oct. 23. Following that incident, investigators spoke with a witness, who told them they were heading to Pond Street when Clarence Grimes Jr., 20, waved him down.

According to Mize, the witness stopped and got out of a vehicle to talk to Grimes, who allegedly started saying Grimes had something to do with the August 2018 fatal shooting of Keshon Green.

The witness told investigators that Grimes then pulled a handgun from his waist and threatened to shoot Jackson right there; however, the witness was able to get back in his car and drive off. According to reports, the witness had small children in the car.

Mize said that case is still under investigation.

Later, the same day, officers responded to a reported aggravated assault at a residence at 102 Whitman St.

Upon arrival, officers were met by Charles Colbert who told officers that Grimes had pulled a gun on him, according to Mize. Investigators then were called to the area due to the previous case being worked involved Grimes.

While officers were on scene, Grimes’ probation officer came to the location, and a Fourth Amendment waiver was executed, according to Mize. Inside the residence, officers uncovered drug-related objects along with a 9mm XD handgun and ammunition.

According to Mize, the following people were charged:

  • Clarence Grimes Jr., 20, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of drug-related objects.
  • Clarence Grimes, 47, of Toccoa, was arrested and charged with possession of drug-related objects and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Davida Brown, 37, of Toccoa was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

All three are residents of 102 Whitman St., Toccoa.
