(UPDATE) Volleyball playoffs: Area 7-3A sweeps; Jackson Co., Jefferson, Lakeview move on

GAINESVILLE — Area 7-3A teams swept their four matches and Area 8-3A teams Jefferson and Jackson County also advanced to the second round of the Class 3A girls volleyball tournament Saturday while Lakeview Academy advanced in Class 2A-A Private.

North Hall rolled into the second round of the Class 3A playoffs with a sweep of North Murray at home. 

The Lady Trojans won 25-15, 25-17, 25-16 to advance. The Area 7-3A champions next will play host to the Jefferson-Adairsville winner next week in the Sweet 16.

Grace Hollifield had 10 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 aces and Maci Gillespie had 24 assists, 3 kills, and 2 digs to pace North Hall. Madison Brock had 7 kills, 7 aces, and 8 digs, Bella Foster added 18 digs and 1 ace, and Alexandria Bryant had 6 aces, 2 kills, and 10 digs for the Lady Trojans.

Dovie Williams had 2 kills and 1 ace, Zoe Finelli added 4 digs, and Ansley Smallwood had 1 kill and Mackenzie Crisp 1 block for North Hall.

 

AREA 7-3A ROLLS; JACKSON COUNTY ADVANCES

East Hall took its record to 36-15 on the season beating Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe in the first round of the Class 3A in straight sets, 25-19,25-14,25-21, at home on Saturday.

The victory advanced the Lady Vikings to the second round. They will take on Area 8-3A champion Morgan County on Tuesday. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m

Savannah Thellman scored 5 points on serve with 3 aces, 2 kills, 3 digs and 35 assists and Tessa Rider scored 2 points on serve with  15 kills and 13 digs to lead East Hall. Ivey Shadburn scored 5 points on serve with 2 aces, 1 kill and 6 digs, Janelly Lara scored 7 points on serve with 1 ace, 9 kills, 3 assists and 10 digs, and Alysia Teague scored 9 points on serve with 1 assist and 12 digs for the Lady Vikings.

Nehemiah Jinks had 16 kills and 6 blocks and Lakeria Whelchel scored 5 points on serve with 4 kills, 3 blocks and 2 digs. for East Hall.

Also for Area 7-3A, Dawson County took out Murray County 3-1 and Lumpkin County, a No. 4 seed, upset Area 6-3A champion Ringgold in a 3-1 win to advance. Dawson County next will travel to Calhoun, which took out East Jackson. The Lady Indians will travel to Jackson County, which knocked off Sonoraville in a straight sets victory.

LAKEVIEW CRUISES IN CLASS 2A-A

The Area 8 2A-A Private champion Lady Lions cruised past Pinecrest Academy Saturday at home.

Lakevew next will play host to The Walker School next week in the second round.
