Jacobs Media airwaves closes out regular season with a bang

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

The Jacobs Media family of stations will close out the 2018 regular season Friday night in style with three huge contests that are sure to provide plenty of fireworks for fans.

Class 5A No. 2-ranked Buford will entertain Clarke Central at Tom Riden Stadium on WDUN AM 550 in a showdown for the Region 8-5A title. The Wolves (7-2, 4-0 Region 8-5A) have steamrolled the rest of the region outscoring their first four opponents 208-6 with three shutouts and can win the region outright with a victory. Meanwhile, the Gladiators (6-3, 3-1) can win the region with a win and a Cedar Shoals loss to Walnut Grove. However, a Clarke Central win and a Cedar Shoals win would sent it to a three-way tiebreaker where the winner would then be drawn out of a hat.

Over on 94.5 FM The Lake, Gainesville will travel to Lanier trying to not only stay alive for a playoff spot but claim a No. 2 seed in Region 8-6A. The Red Elephants (2-7, 2-2 Region 8-6A) will clinch a playoff spot with a win but aso could find themselves on the outside-looking-in with a loss and an Apalachee victory over Habersham Central. Lanier (6-3, 3-1) already has clinched a playoff spot but is looking to secure a No. 2 seed. A Gainesville win and a Habersham loss would give the Red Elephants the No. 2 seed after starting 0-7 on the season.

And, on WDUN FM 102.9, North Hall heads to Dawson County in a much-anticipated battle for the No. 2 seed in Region 7-3A. Both teams already have clinched playoff berths. The only question is which will get a coveted home playoff game in the first round of the playoffs. The Trojans (8-1, 4-1 Region 7-3A) have been on fire outscoring their last three opponents 208-13 behind a potent wing-T attack. The Tigers (8-1, 4-1) also feature a devastating ground game that has piled up 94 points and over 700 yards rushing the last two weeks. Seismographs may be on alert in north Georgia for this one.
