Gainesville man arrested after security camera catches peeping tom

A Gainesville man has been arrested after authorities say a home surveillance camera caught him looking in a window at a woman over the weekend.

Angel Sanchez, 19, is charged with peeping tom after allegedly peeping into the window of a West Haven Drive home three separate times on Sunday.

"During the recording you can see the individual walk from the rear of the residence to a porch. The individual momentarily looks around to see if anyone is watching and then from that point appears to be peeping through a window in an attempt to look in to the residence," said Sgt. Kevin Holbrook with the Gainesville Police Department. "The female, to police, had stated something wasn't quite right. She I guess had a feeling about something, reviewed the video camera footage and that's when she observed the individual on video."

Holbrook said through the evidence footage they were able to identify the alleged peeping tom as a neighbor.

"Many people do have video cameras that do recordings at their private residences. This is something we've seen over the past year or so that has been very valuable to us," said Holbrook. "Without that, who knows how long this could have been going on."

Sanchez remains in the Hall County Jail on $7,500 bond and he also faces an immigration hold.
