Girls basketball: Chestatee, Branch, Buford, Banks, N. Forsyth, Lakeview all take wins

JASPER — The Chestatee girls spoiled senior night for Pickens stealing a 48-45 overtime win on the road Saturday night.

The Lady War Eagles (10-14) trailed by eight points after the third quarter but rallied behind Emma Easterwood, who scored all 8 of her points in the fourth quarter. Maggie McNair scored 10 of her 12 in the second half, including a big 3-pointer in the final period and a tough basket pointer in overtime.

Lindsey Caudell scored 5 of her game-high 16 in the extra frame to help seal the win.

Chestatee next will travel to West Hall on Tuesday in a Region 7-AAAA showdown.

 

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 60,
CEDAR SHOALS 34

The Lady Falcons opened the game with a 15-5 run and never looked back in taking a Region 8-AAAAA victory on the road.

Flowery Branch (18-5, 8-2 Region 8-AAAAA) led 35-17 at halftime and took a 46-26 lead into the fourth quarter.

Taniyah Worth had a monster game with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 steals and Ashley Woodroffe had 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals to lead the Lady Falcons. Caroline Wysocki had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals, Lexi Sengkhammee had 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals, and Ashlee Locke added 7 poits and 10 rebounds for Flowery Branch.

 

BUFORD GIRLS 52,
NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 34

Tory Ozment and AudreyWeiner each poured in 14 points to lead the Lady Wolves to the fifth straight win in a non-region battle.

Buford (20-3, 10-0 Region 8-AAAAA) will play host to Walnut Gove on Tuesday in region play.

 

NORTH FORSYTH GIRLS 50,
ROSWELL 20

North Forsyth (21-2) won its 13th consecutive game with rout of the Lady Hornets in non-region play.

They held Roswell scoreless in the second quarter while building a 30-8 halftime lead.

Senior Cassie Markle had 8 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists to lead the Lady Raiders. Sophomore Ansley Allen added 9 points for North Forsyth. 

The Lady Raiders will travel to West Forsyth on Tuesday to clinch the top seed in the upcoming Region 5-AAAAAAA tournament.

 

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 62,
RABUN COUNTY 43

The Lady Leopards (19-4, 9-1 Region 8-AA) maintained their lead in Region 8-AA with a big road victory. 

Banks County led just 18-13 after one quarter and exetnded it vto 31-24 by halftime. The Lady Leopards took a 40-31 lead into the fourth quarter but any Rabun County comeback thoughts were dashed when Banks County outscored the Lady Wildcats (7-5, 5-4) 2-12 in the final period.

Maddie Thomas led Banks County with 16 points. Amber Williams had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks and Allison Smith added 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks for the Lady Leopards. Jaycie Bowen had 9 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks and Kailynn Gilstrap chipped in with 8 points.

Georgia Stockton paced Rabun County with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Kaitlin Coleman added 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals for the Lady Wildcats.

Banks County travls to Putnam County on Tuesday with a chance to clinch the No. 1 seed and a berth in the state playoffs. Rabun County travels to Social Crcle on Tuesday.

 

GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN GIRLS 68,
DAWSON COUNTY 30

Despite a strong start against the Region 7-AAA unbeaten Lady Spartans, Dawson County dropped its second consecutive Region 7-AAA contest on the road Saturday.
 
The Lady Tigers (12-10, 4-6 Region 7-AAA) led 15-13 after the first quarter. But GAC (18-3, 11-0) held Dawson County to just 15 points over the final three quarters.
 
The Lady Spartans outscored Dawson County 26-5 in the second quarter to lead 39-20 at halftime and took a 60-26 lead into the fouth quarter.
 
Cadey Ayers led Dawson County with 9 points. Anna Lowe and Calli Watson each added 6 points for the Lady Tigers.

Dawson County, which fell to fourth place in the region with the loss, next will play host to East Hall on Tuesday.

 

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 59,
GEORGE WALTON 35

Lakeview Academy (16-7, 12-1 Region 8-A) closed its region schedule with an impressive win over George Walton Academy  at home.

The Lady Lions led just 27-22 at halftime but blew the game open with a big second half.

Sadie Thrailkill led the way with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals while Savannah Kinsey had 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Lakeview. 

Tori Taylor added 11 points and 4 rebounds and Maddie Towles dished out 7 assists for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview will be off until next Friday when it plays host to Chattanooga Christian on Senior Night.
