Piedmont baseball picked to finish 2nd in USA South

By AccessWDUN

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Piedmont baseball team was selected second overall in the USA South preseason coaches' poll released Wednesday. The Lions were the eighth seed in the conference tournament a year ago but made a run and ended the year as the runner up in the championship.

The Lions came in second to LaGrange College who won the tournament championship a year ago. LaGrange earned seven of the first place votes while the Lions took the remaining five with coaches not voting for their own teams.

This season, the conference welcomes new League members Berea College, Brevard College, and Pfeiffer University. Brevard and Pfeiffer will not be included in the polls as they are each reclassifying from Division II and are not eligible for championship honors this season.

Ferrum and Maryville tied for third in the poll while N.C. Wesleyan took fifth rounding out the top five. The complete poll is listed below.

Piedmont will begin the 2018 campaign at home hosting Emory on February 3 at 2:00 p.m.
