Boys basketball: Banks boys fall in rugged top 10 battle; Lakeview, Union, Jefferson prevail

HOMER — The ninth-ranked Banks County boys slugged it out with eighth-ranked Elbert County throughout but could not find a way past the Blue Devils in a 61-56 loss on Tuesday in Homer.

The Leopards (18-4, 7-2 Region 8-AA) led 10-8 after the first quarter but fell behind 23-20 at the half, as AJ James and Jacquavious Ramsey began to heat up. The Elbert duo finished with 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Darius Bonds and Carl Cleveland each paced Banks County with 18 points, while Gabe Martin added 9. 

The Leopards will look to bounce back against Rabun County on Saturday in Homer.


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 95,
TALLULAH FALLS 68

The Lions created 24 assists and buried 16 3-pointers in the win on Tuesday in Gainesville. 

Drew Cottrell paced Lakeview with 20 points and 7 rebounds, while Evan Pitts scored 16 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and drew 3 charges. Blake McIntyre also scored 12 points and provided 7 assists, while Jack Blackburn added 7 assists.

The Lions (15-6, 12-0 Region 8-A) will travel to Providence Christian at 8 p.m. Friday.


UNION COUNTY BOYS 55,
NORTH HALL 42

The Panthers' Patrick Baggett buried three 3-pointers and scored all of his 11 points in the second half of their win on Tuesday night in Blairsville.

Pierson Allison led Union County with 13 points, and Crawford Colwell also had 11.

Noah Holman and Luke Gunter scored 13 points apiece for the Trojans. 

North Hall plays Dawson County on Friday.

Union County will take on East Hall on Friday.


JEFFERSON BOYS 57,
NORTH OCONEE 23

Donsha Gaither led the Dragons (15-7, 6-1 Region 8-AAAA) with 16 points in the win on Tuesday night. Jasper Gibson also scored 12 points in the win.

Jefferson, which led 28-7 at the half, has won 13 of its last 15 contests.

The Dragons travel to Oconee County on Friday.


FANNIN COUNTY BOYS 61,
DAWSON COUNTY 56

The Tigers (14-6, 6-2 Region 7-AAA) fell during the road trip on Tuesday in Blue Ridge.

Cullen Reed scored 23 points for Dawson in the loss, while Jeremiah Crumley added 12 points. Kane Pelfrey also scored 8.

Dawson County will look to bounce back on Friday at North Hall.
